Nestled in the super cute Carr Mill Mall of Carborro, North Carolina is Mulberry Silks and Fine Fabrics. After hearing about Mulberry Silks from other Skirt Skills class participants, I was looking forward to being able to shop here in person when a work trip landed me in North Carolina.
[columnize] While the footprint of this shop might be small, the quality and selection of the merchandise are huge! The store is jam packed with beautiful fabrics & notions, all of which are clearly organized. The essential elements of this sewing spot have been carefully thought out, and the layout is clear and easy to follow. Fabric, notions, and patterns are nicely displayed, and there is also room for a class area. All of the fabric is organized and presented by type, most on the original bolt. I appreciated the clear information provided for each material type which allowed me to find what I was looking for quickly.
Aside from the quality of goods, the staff and owners of this stitching source were equally high quality. The staff was so helpful while I was shopping and the owner was also present. I really enjoyed the opportunity to speak with them about the store and the fabric I selected. It was immediately apparent they have a huge passion for sewing and meeting & encouraging other sewists.
As I was finishing up my shopping, a class was beginning. I find that one of the best indicators of a fabric shop’s character is the customers it attracts, both for shopping and for class participation. Mulberry Silks and Fine Fabrics is most definitely a shop that cares as much about its patrons as its fabric-oriented merchandise and I highly recommend a visit to this store if you are in the area!
