If you’re like me, you have a lot of sewing machine needles around that may (or may not) need a good home. But why is it that every time I start a new project, I have to hunt and hunt for the right needle? After organizing my sewing space for the hundredth time this year, I knew it was time to find a better way to store my sewing machine needles!
Let’s face it when your local craft store has a 50% off notion sale, we all stock up. But I can’t tell you how many times I’ve purchased needles at the deal only to forget where I stashed them when I got home. What I needed was some storage that would keep these needle packets organized without adding any additional mess to my sewing room. I have limited “counter space” where I work, so finding a solution that could get safely tucked away into a drawer would be ideal. I also wanted a way to keep my needles stored by type so I wouldn’t have to sift through them all every time I start a new project.
After hunting around the craft store, I came to the plastic storage boxes. And then I found this one which has both fixed slots and lots of small slide in dividers to customize the space. And of course, I love the mint green color (even though it doesn’t photograph very well). I’ve seen lots of crafters use these boxes for scrapbooking, embroidery or jewelry supplies, but not sewing machine needles. After looking it over, I decided this would be the perfect place for me to store my needles. Besides the organized storage of the needles, this box also has a low enough profile to live in one of the drawers in my work table. This box holds all the needles I own, in separate compartments by type, and since it lives in the drawer, it doesn’t add any more clutter to my already messing workspace.
What about You?
