Hello! I’m Jennifer, and the person behind Sewing is Required. I am fortunate to come from a long line of clever folks who modeled the importance of pursuing their creative callings. I believe that everyone possesses a creative spirit and I hope this website will inspire yours!
While I am fond of anything I can make, sewing remains my constant passion. I learned how to sew as a teenager and have been working at it in some form or another ever since (You can read my complete sewing story here). When I first started sewing, I quickly realized that I didn’t know anyone else who sewed. This fact was puzzling since I knew people were out there buying fabric, machines, and notions, but where were they? Like me, I think most were sewing quietly alone, not confident enough to admit that their hands created the skirt, quilt, or shirt they were wearing. When I was fortunate enough to connect with other sewists, I found our conversations steadily moved away from the actual projects and more toward the personal nature of sewing. Since then I’ve been motivated by a desire not only to make but also to share. Sharing what we’ve made, interacting with other sewists, and ultimately celebrating the art of sewing is what I am passionate about.
I hope you will enjoy the growing collection of sewing related stories, original photographs, and travel adventures chronicled on this site and I look forward to connecting with you!
